At Our Lady’s Cowley, we believe swimming is an essential life skill and an important part of every child’s development. Through high-quality teaching and supportive instruction, children build confidence, coordination and resilience while developing a lifelong skill.
What We Offer
Curriculum-Based Swimming
All Year 4 pupils take part in swimming lessons as part of our curriculum, ensuring every child has the opportunity to develop key swimming and water safety skills.
Skilled Instruction
Our teachers and swimming coaches work closely with children in the water, providing support, encouragement and expert guidance.
Tailored Learning
Small group sizes, with a maximum of four pupils, allow for personalised teaching and strong progress.
Strong Outcomes
Swimming Success

100% of pupils in the current Year 6 cohort can use a range of swimming strokes effectively, including front crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke.

100% of pupils in the current Year 6 cohort can perform safe self-rescue in a variety of water-based situations.
Inclusive Support
Additional top-up lessons are offered in Year 6 for children who have not yet achieved 25 metres, helping every pupil reach their potential.
Engaging Experiences
Fun and Purposeful Lessons
Lessons include stroke development, water safety and enjoyable end-of-term sessions, making swimming both educational and fun.
